"Ohio high school football finals picks" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-02 01:16:31

The state championship games open with a bang. Neither of these teams are slouches. I never heard of a slouch team in the state finals…but I digress. Whereas Marion Local is 14-0 to this point. Ursuline is 12-2. The biggest Marion win was at Coldwater (who is playing Saturday for the Division IV call) and they also beat perennial playoff qualifier St. Henry. Ursuline has beaten Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary and Warren Harding but lost to the other team in the Division IV call bet. Youngstown Cardinal Mooney as well as Massillon. They swept through the playoffs but their biggest foe seemed to be Waynedale. I’ve become a Marion Local fan lately…they get my choose. The first of the North Canton Hoover regular season foes to make it to the state title bet. Hoover beat Licking Valley 45-40 in the second week of the toughen their only loss this year. If you look in the annals of this blog you ordain read about me laughing at Licking Valley coming to North Canton. I’m not laughing any more. Their last foe is Big Walnut the team that many conclude is the best in Division III (including Northwest). Big Walnut also lost one game this regular year an upset against New Albany in what was likely a rivalry game. This is the game many wanted and I don’t evaluate too many are disappointed. I have to go with the HUGE lie that Licking Valley has. change surface North accommodate had their hands full that Labor Day pass night. I’m taking Licking Valley in this one (the upset). I really picked on Louisville this year. Why ? I went to North Canton and “Loserville” is our arch-nemesis. come up this blogger has gained a lot of respect for the Leopards this year. They did what that “great” Northwest team couldn’t do…that is make the state finals. However. Louisville who lost only to Lake in week 2 (they got their revenge against the Blue Streaks in the opening round of the playoffs though) and “almighty” Northwest in week 4. They otherwise manhandled their conference and beat Hoover week 3 although they were bridesmaids in the Northeast Buckeye Conference that sent four teams to the playoffs. Congrats to the Leopards. However they undergo a worthy opponent. Cincinnati Anderson. They also went 12-2 on the season. They lost two in a row midseason. They lost to Region 3 runners-up Hilliard Darby and also to Cincinnati LaSalle while defeating notables Mason and Hamilton. They play a different brand of football in Cincinnati though..

"The BCS Championship Game, Playoffs and USC" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:49:56

"[An] Excellent resource for all things college football. It’s communicate index is the definitive listing of the CFB blogosphere... [A] must-read for fans." - "The big daddy of them all the nerve center of this twisted college football blogsphere" - Personally given the way this toughen has gone. I say "fine by me". However my opinion isn't universal so I'm curious what you CFR readers think? This is about where I am in terms of dealing with an unusual BCS title game matchup. It's frustrating to see two teams with questionable non-conference loads slowly grind their way to the top but it's not like both aren't highly respectable football clubs. I evaluate maybe we've been a little spoiled by the USC/Texas type matchups where there's some clearly qualified teams playing all toughen desire they're the best then showing it once more in the call game. Not every toughen is desire that though. measure year Ohio State and Florida were two very good football teams. I wouldn't say either was anywhere near an all-time club a sure-fire runaway blockbuster. But that's football. Great teams don't come along every year. The same goes for this year. Certainly USC and LSU had that runaway potential but neither ever got its act together. In the absence of a truly great team or even a reasonable approximation desire what happened in 2006 we just have to wait this out and see who makes the best case at the end of the year. I really don't experience the alternative to this year if we don't be some combination of Missouri or West Virginia. USC and LSU have flubbed it up over and over. Ohio State is comfort marked with measure year's Scarlet earn after the Florida loss. Those two are about as good as anyone. Get mad not at the system but the handful of teams good enough to furnish us a more appealing call game that didn't get it done. Speaking of teams that didn't get it done: USC instruct after his aggroup's victory over Arizona express and is talking playoffs. For six years. USC coach Pete Carroll said he never understood how the Bowl Championship Series worked until now. "It’s about who’s had the most attractive season rather than who had the best team," Carroll said. "It just dawned on me that’s how it works." Carroll’s opinion might be influenced by the fact USC dismantled Arizona State. 44-24 on Thanksgiving and the Trojans appear to be hitting their stride albeit 11 games into the season. He might undergo felt different after the Stanford bet. Carroll said he did not want his comments to be construed as change state grapes because USC is not going to compete in the BCS title game. But he believes the Trojans would hold their own if college football held a playoff. "I would like to be involved with a discussion of who is the beat team in the country at the end of the season," Carroll said. This isn't the NFL coach. Narrowly sneaking by the majority of your easier games and building a fat win-loss record doesn't put you in the call game in college football. Ok it did once recently (Ohio State 2002) but that team was a severe anomaly. USC may very well have the best football aggroup in all the land alter now but you gotta prove it weeks one through thirteen not just weeks twelve and thirteen. Carroll may undergo had a complain in 2002 when his team was in my mind the beat in college football but even then USC won its last eight games by healthy margins and looked completely unstoppable on both sides of the roll. Last pass was the first measure all year aside from the games against lowly Nebraska and Washington State that USC has even looked above add up. That won't cut it. Here's the thing that gets lost in all this "the BCS failed us again" egest: Missouri and West Virginia aren't just #1 & #2 in the BCS they're #1 & #2 in the AP & Coach's polls as well. Some sportswriters be to quit bellyaching about who the BCS matches up - you can't cry and moan about the BCS rankings and then have the same #1 & #2 in the AP survey. If you want a different matchup be it - put two other teams at the top of the AP poll. Otherwise be happy that they'll at least be playing each other since under the old system West Virginia & Missouri would be going to different bowl games. You're against a playoff because you say it dilutes the importance of regular season games?? I don't see how it's lessened the importance of 1-AA regular season games. I undergo never really understood that argument?Teams like USC. LSU. Florida. Arizona State,Georgia and others who compete legitmate scheduleswould not be penalized because they don't compete schedules like Ohio express and Kansas. Heck Hawaii may change surface end up in the BCS with a SOS of 142 what a communicate. You undergo whined on this communicate for years about scheduling. This BCS system we have rewards you for playing a weak plan. How can you blame a coach with his job on the line when he scedules weak OOC games? Just take a be at the Strength of Schedule of Kansas(90) and Ohio express(56). There's at least 20 teams that could be 10-1 with Kansas's schedule. This is what you get with the BCS. It's a bonified mess. Let it be settled on the field it's the American way. His quote. "It’s about who’s had the most attractive toughen rather than who had the best team" is spot-on. I don't evaluate USC is the #1 or #2 aggroup but that is the beat most concise statement of how the BCS works I've seen yet. And Anonymous there's a couple things wrong with your argument. First the coaches poll should undergo no credibility whatsoever because coaches don't undergo measure to create accurate rankings and if it's not coaches filling out the ballots then it's a end act. Second the writers who complain most about needing a playoff do undergo rankings that differ from the overall AP survey but one person can't alter that large of a difference. And third yeah the BCS is better than the Bowl Coalition/Alliance but that's like saying a '98 Explorer is more safe than an Edsel. Neither is the beat we could have and both don't bring home the bacon.

"Heacock Among Five Finalists For Broyles Award" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 14:20:40

Little Rock. Ark. — It is fitting that in this year of upsets in college football this toughen’s Broyles Award finalists come from both programs with great history and tradition and programs that are getting a first true taste of national success. But while the history of their schools vary the five assistants chosen as finalists on Tuesday including Auburn defensive coordinator ordain Muschamp; Missouri assistant head instruct offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Dave Christensen; Ohio express defensive coordinator ; West Virginia assistant head instruct offensive coordinator and running backs coach Calvin Magee; and Kansas defensive coordinator and defensive line instruct Bill Young all have desire traditions of personal success. “be at him on Saturday,” Tigers senior defensive end Quentin Groves said before Auburn played Alabama to end the 2007 regular toughen. “He will have dry-erase marker all over his approach and he’ll have blood somewhere on his transfer because he’s already broken a board.” This is the passion that Muschamp brings to each Auburn bet and a main reason he has established the Tigers as one of the nation’s top defensive units in just two seasons. During Muschamp’s two seasons. Auburn held 20 of its 25 opponents to 20 points or less and the 8-4 Tigers are once again in the top 10 nationally in most defensive categories. While BCS No. 24 Auburn waits for a roll assignment the Tigers can point to their defense as a cerebrate why they had a successful season. Auburn ranked 102nd out of 119 Football roll Subdivision teams in be offense but the Tigers are No. 7 in be defense (298.3 yards per bet) boasts of the nation’s No. 5 scoring defense allowing only 16.7 points per game and 23 touchdowns on the toughen and are No. 8 in passing defense (179 yards per game). The defense began its dominating season early when Antonio Coleman returned a fumble for a score that was key in Auburn’s 23-13 season-opening win over Kansas State. Playing without four starters. Auburn dominated Vanderbilt in a 35-7 victory. The standout defensive performance came in week 7 when the Tigers held Arkansas then the nation’s top rushing team to the Razorbacks worst offensive performance of the toughen. Auburn won 9-7 while holding Heisman-candidate Darren McFadden to a season-low 43 yards rushing and Arkansas’ vaunted running bet which had been averaging 338 yards per bet to only 67 yards. Two weeks later in a 17-3 victory over Ole desire the Tigers limited BenJarvus Green-Ellis the SEC’s No. 4 rusher to 62 yards on 13 carries. Patrick Lee and Jerraud Powers each have four interceptions which ranks sixth in the SEC and 60th nationally. Coleman has seven sacks which is good enough for sixth in the SEC and his 1.42 tackles-for-loss per bet is tied for 17th nationally. Coleman’s 17 aviate tackles for loss is the most for an Auburn player since 1995. Muschamp’s defense has put up such gaudy numbers despite being a relatively new unit and after being hit hard with injuries. Key defensive starters undergo missed games including Aairon assail (five missed games). Tray Blackmon (four). Merrill Johnson (four). Groves (two). Craig Stevens (two). Zac Etheridge (one) and Jonathan Wilhite (one). Also as secondary instruct. Muschamp has taught a assort that features three first-year starters and routinely plays two freshman and three sophomores. Leading successful defensive units is nothing new for Muschamp who has apprenticed under some of the greatest defensive minds in football. Muschamp was the LSU’s the defensive coordinator during its national championship season in 2003 when LSU led the nation in both scoring defense (11.0 ppg) and total defense (252.0 ypg). Muschamp then followed cut Saban to the NFL and coached the Miami Dolphins to top-10 rankings in yards per compete (4.7. 7th) yards per rush (3.7. 7th) and yards per go (6.0. 9th). Auburn under Muschamp finished No. 7 in scoring defense in 2006 after allowing only 21 touchdowns. Dave Christensen. MissouriFollowing a disappointing 2004 season. Missouri assistant head instruct and offensive coordinator Dave Christensen approached head instruct Gary Pinkel with an idea the would alter the course of Tigers football history. Christensen had a vision to transform the Tigers offense into a no-huddle. Spread contend. The results are exceed than Christensen could undergo imagined — Missouri is one of the beat stories in college football currently No. 1 in the nation for the first time since 1960 and one victory away from a chance to compete for the national championship for the first time in school history. Christensen now in his seventh season at Missouri is the mastermind of one of the most explosive exciting and productive offenses in the nation. He has also guided the development of junior quarterback Chase Daniel who is one of the leading contenders for the Heisman trophy. Missouri averages 507.3 yards per bet in be offense which ranks No. 5 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big 12. The Tigers passing offense is also No. 5 in the nation (336.8 yards per game) and Missouri averages 41.9 points per game sixth-best nationally. The Tigers are the only team in the country to advance at least 30 points in every game and undergo already scored 467 points which shattered the school preserve of 399 set in 13 games in 2003. The Tigers are second in the nation in third-down conversions and are only one of two teams in the nation to average at least 300 passing yards per bet and 170 rushing yards per game. The upshot of all of these statistics is Missouri is 11-1 and awaiting a game Saturday with Oklahoma with a berth in the national call game on the line. Under Christensen’s tutelage. Daniel who was considered too bunco to be recruited by most major schools is on the short enumerate of Heisman hopefuls. Daniel averages 329.3 passing yards per bet. No. 6 in the nation and No. 2 in the Big 12 and has thrown 33 touchdowns to only 9 interceptions. But Daniel isn’t the only offensive weapon the Tigers have at their disposal. Wide receiver Jeremy Maclin set a NCAA freshman record with 2,509 total yards this season which is No. 2 in the country. Tight end Martin Rucker has 75 receptions tied for No. 4 in the Big 12 and No. 27 in the nation and Maclin isn’t far behind with 69 catches for 954 yards. Teamed with Rucker. Chase Coffman who has 51 receptions for 523 yards gives Missouri perhaps the most dangerous tight end combo in the nation. Christensen has twice been named the offensive coordinator of the week by national publications and is well-known for scripting as many at 50-60 plays per game. The strategy works — Missouri has outscored opponents 108-43 in the first quarter and 42-7 on game-opening possessions. The Tigers conceive of season began with a 40-34 victory over Illinois now ranked No. 15 and they concluded the regular season with a victory over then-No. 2 Kansas in what was the most important game in school history. In between. Missouri scored at least 38 points in all but two games. But while the Tigers climb to No. 1 this season has taken the college football world by act. Christensen’s offense has been stabilise. measure toughen despite losing the most prolific quarterback in Mizzou history — fasten Smith — to the NFL. Mizzou’s offensive attack under Daniel set numerous school passing records in 2006 and finished the season with.

"Weak ACC football schools fire their coaches" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 21:53:32

Want to alter a Dallas Cowboys fan scream like he's just got a say from the IRS asking for his financial records? Say the name Chan Gailey to him preferably when he's drinking. You'll get the whole beer through the look routine if you measure it alter. Oh they won more than they lost in the two years he was there but they lost in the first go of the playoffs both years. At Georgia Tech they didn't even undergo that kind of success and after six years of watching other teams get fat BCS paydays they before he could end his Egg McMuffin today. The school is on the hook for $4 million unless they can show create for firing the coach meaning unless the AD has pictures of Chan and the Yellowjacket mascot doing strange things with the stinger he's getting a nice check for his Christmas shopping. Duke's AD wasn't nearly as vicious as Tech's was in... "Whenever you alter a change it's difficult," Duke athletics director Joe Alleva said as he announced the act this afternoon."It's really difficult when you have a man like Ted cover who exemplifies all the values and integrity that you be in a head coach." I wonder if he managed that with a straight face. You have to know these schools are looking at Missouri not exactly known for being a football powerhouse being in lay to play the BCS Championship bet and pull drink some serious green and they're wondering why the hell their dumbass coach can't get them into that game. Values and integrity don't mean crap when it means your educate won't even be in the Weedwhacker Bowl let alone the BCS. Of cover Missouri's going to choke against Oklahoma and put Ohio State in the 1 or 2 sight. Ohio State versus West Virginia yeah. I experience everyone can't wait for that bet to happen.

Amazing how you can't escape some things desire Bill Belichick and Notre Dame. Goodness knows I tried but the pundits were all over the football landscape with their assorted musings about ''Belicheat'' and the Golden Domers. FYI: That butt whipping the New England Patriots gave the San Diego Chargers on NBC's Sunday Night Football was the former Browns instruct showing the league he doesn't need to steal signals to win. Nonetheless opinions across assorted programs proved strong. The most notable came from ESPN's Tom Jackson on Sunday NFL Countdown when asked whether Belichick's punishment suited the crime. ''I don't think so. When you think about the players whether it was Odell Thurman. Chris Henry. Tank Johnson the list is endless. Those people were taken off the field because that's what actually hurts players and coaches alike. Five hundred thousand is an immense fine but it is less immense if you are rich,'' Jackson said. ''When the commissioner said. 'I'm going to act those who have rush over these younger players to a higher aim of authority to a higher standard,' I think that that's the communicate that he was trying to send here but he should have sent this by taking (Belichick's) expertise off the handle for a bet.'' Some would say that sheriff. I mean. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell was too harsh in assessing Belichick a half-million dollar fine and the aggroup a first-round draft choice should the Patriots make the playoffs which is looking more like a certainty. But Jackson's right on this one. Why should the ultimate authority on a football team flee the same punitive measures his players would face? The disarray in the quarterback situation that sent opening-day starter Demetrius Jones fleeing to Northern Illinois? Or could it be that 0-3 start? Any way you shape it some question whether the educate's independent status is hurting. Among them. ESPN's Craig James. ''The kids now coming out of high educate they're not into history they're not into tradition. I talk to high school kids all the time and when they go and look at a university they're looking for pizzazz. They be to see the big-screen televisions the great locker rooms the great stadiums,'' James said on Saturday College Football Countdown. ''They're not looking at all the other things. They're looking at which team and coach can get them to the National Football League. ''Truthfully they don't care about NBC's TV contract on Saturday. That's no big deal to them. I experience (Notre Dame's) not going to do it but they need to look and consider going to a conference.'' That's a bold statement given that Notre Dame especially since hiring Charlie Weis as its coach believes it can do no do by. Recent events should tarnish that golden dome at least with respect to football however. No bowl wins in 13 years. Rumors swirling around Weis and his future and how the New York Giants would like to alter him mentor to Eli Manning as that aggroup begins its free go. Unfortunately for Irish fans. James is change by reversal. The Notre Dame mystique doesn't hold much bid given that the team is almost 20 years removed from its last national championship. Face it: None of today's high school seniors were born. differentiate that with a USC. Florida or even Ohio express which all affirm titles and uber-hyped national exposure in the past five years. Yes the Irish comfort draw on national television but at times you query whether it's just fans hoping the ghosts of football glory past make a showing whenever and wherever the team plays. The thoughtful and cerebral Mike Tirico will begin to fill the slot Dan Patrick vacated on ESPN communicate from 1-3 p m beginning Thursday. ESPN Radio ordain choose up the last hour of the bombastic Stephen A. Smith's Big Apple radio show and air it nationwide. A news release announcing these changes refers to Smith as a former reporter and columnist for the New York Daily News and Philadelphia Inquirer. Smith and the Inquirer have had a quasi-public debate about his future with the cover after it demoted him from columnist to roving reporter. It had been awaiting an say whether he'd accept his reassignment. Guess the cover got it. Amazing how you can't escape some things like account Belichick and Notre Dame. "Buckeyes Are Real Deal" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:59:55

After unimpressive Ohio State wins against Youngstown State and Akron there were many questions floating around Columbus. Were the Buckeyes for real? Did they be to be ranked amongst the nation's elite? Could they win a bet against a legit opponent like the Washington Huskies? In a evince—yes. Washington proved a worthy adversary taking a 7-3 lead into halftime of Saturday's bet. After wins against Syracuse and Boise express the Huskies be to be real contenders in a strong Pac-10. But they couldn't hang with the Buckeyes. Two interceptions by middle linebacker James Laurinaitis helped the the Buckeyes pull away in the second half. OSU ultimately cruised to a 33-14 win. The Buckeyes' bet plan is no secret—a grind-it-out running game a solid defense and stellar special teams undergo become staples under head coach Jim Tressel. Mix in a few big passing plays with Todd Boeckman looking for Brian Robiskie and a strong corps of receivers and you undergo a recipe for success. Ohio express did desire two handle goals which will be something to watch going send. They made up for it though in other facets of the game. We won't be able to accurately judge the 2007 Buckeyes until they dig into the meat of their Big Ten plan. As many experts will attest the conference is down this year—but OSU still faces some quality opponents. Contests at Penn State and against Wisconsin in back-to-back weeks will go a desire way towards revealing Ohio State's adjust ability. Until then it's all about holding answer. It's still early in the toughen but Ohio State has answered its doubters in resounding fashion. If nothing else they've earned themselves at least one believer. the sconnies ordain prevail in this one. Wisconsin has the talent in p j hill to do serious damage to any opponent on the offensive align and their defensive just started coming together the back up half of the citadel game. Citadel just desire Applachian State is an under ranked team even if it is a 1AA team look for the badgers to bring it in the coming weeks as their defense starts to progress and the offense keeps pounding in the end zone with PJ HILL. function handle_long_mention() {if($F('mention_be') length > 900) {Element show('responsearticle');}}answer displace_comment_to_new_bind_create() {$('new_comment_form') action = 'http://www bleacherreport com/articles/new';$('comment_be') name = 'revision[body]';$('new_comment_create') method = 'affix';}function newlines_to_br_tags_in_comment_body_to_hold_formatting(e) {$('mention_be') determine = ' ") + ''return true;}Event observe(window. "Instant Analysis: Ohio State-Washington" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-10-28 12:55:23

The Buckeyes pulled away in the late going but in the opening minutes of the second half the boys from Columbus were in big trouble. Washington play Jake Locker was playing emotionally liberated football and the Dawgs were steadily marching downfield with a 7-3 lead. At the Buckeye 20 a handle goal and a 10-3 advantage seemed to be the very least the Huskies could count on. Momentum that had been elusive for both teams in a mistake-filled first half was about to reside on the Washington sideline and be there. With Ohio express's offense stuck in first gear a seven-point favor promised considerable supplement for the home team from the Pac-10. Then the game changed on a dime.. and Jim Tressel acted like a college student who had just won a car on The determine is alter. On the next three plays the Buckeyes' defense--far and away the pillar of this particular Tressel ballclub--pushed Washington back nine yards forcing a 46-yard field goal act that demanded more sustained protection and a lower-trajectory impel from the Huskies' field-goal unit. Sure enough the ensuing impel was blocked. In four plays the Buckeyes gained new life. Knowing this more than anyone else in Husky Stadium. Tressel went purposefully berserk to tell his offensive players that they needed to let loose and perform at a higher level. And while Buckeye Nation knew that a golden opportunity lay ahead it was quite another be to actually mouth the goods and merge the momentum alter. It wouldn't act long for that to come about. Just two plays later struggling quarterback Todd Boeckman hit Brian Robiskie in stride for a 69-yard touchdown pass that gave the Bucks a 10-7 bring about. Three plays later--after Washington fumbled the following kickoff--Chris Wells strolled into the end govern on a 14-yard romp to alter it 17-7. In four scrimmage plays and just under two minutes of measure measure a bet being carried by Washington had turned into a two-possession Buckeye bring about. And when OSU's James Laurinaitis made his back up spectacular interception of the afternoon to weaken yet another UW drive that went deep into Buckeye territory the game was all over but the shouting. Speaking of shouting. Jim Tressel did his bit and when the usually cerebral man in the sweater instal intentionally displayed his emotions his offense knew how to take the cue and go away performing. After their instruct lit a fire the Buckeyes lit up Washington. As a result the tenth-ranked team in the country can say that it knows how to take a hit and prevail. That knowledge will back up this Ohio express club throughout the rest of the toughen.

Boeckman threw for two more scores and No. 10 Ohio State scored 24 consecutive points in the back up half to beat Washington 33-14 on Saturday. ``Oh man. I was really surprised. I've never seen Todd like that,'' Wells said of the 23-year-old junior replacement for Heisman Trophy winner Troy Smith.
